The National Enquirer “story” about alleged affairs between Presidential candidate Ted Cruz and five women has been discussed widely for over a day now. According to the Gateway Pundit, a video has also been shopped around to different news agencies. Evidence of affairs shown in the video is apparently quite thin, but The Daily Beast indicated one surprising response to the video:
Breitbart News, the notoriously Trump-friendly conservative outlet, was also pitched the story of Cruz’s extramarital affairs, according to a source close to the publication. That source said an operative allied with Marco Rubio—but not associated with his official campaign—showed the publication a compilation video of Cruz and a woman other than his wife coming out of the Capitol Grille restaurant and a hotel on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But the outlet opted not to report on the video, which demonstrated no direct evidence of an affair.
This is surprising, because Breitbart News has been accused of some shameless pandering to the Trump campaign recently. Is passing on this video a sign that Breitbart has learned its lesson? Or perhaps it’s just evidence that they are legitimately more objective than thought by some? Either way, it’s a refreshing turn of events.
